Halton Hills’ Official Town Bird! 🐦

Hey Halton Hills—it’s time to vote for our first-ever official town bird!

As the team lead for Bird Friendly Halton Hills, I’m so excited about this project. Birds are such an important part of our local environment, and this is a fun way to celebrate them while getting the whole community involved.

Why does Halton Hills need an official bird?

In 2022, Halton Hills became a Bird Friendly City, recognized by Nature Canada for our efforts to protect birds and their habitats. Having an official town bird will help raise awareness about our feathered friends and highlight the importance of conservation.

How does the voting work?

With the help of the Halton North Peel Naturalist Club, we selected 11 local bird species—after removing ones that already represent other cities. Now, it’s up to YOU to decide which one will represent Halton Hills!

Round One: 🗳️ February 17 – April 29 – Vote for your favorite bird online or in person.
Round Two: 🏆 August 9 – October 11 – The top three birds will go head-to-head for the final vote!

You can vote online at Let's Talk Halton Hills or drop by:
📍 Halton Hills Public Library (Acton & Georgetown branches)
📍 Hillsview Active Living Centres (Acton & Georgetown locations)

Which bird will win?

Will it be the striking Northern Cardinal, the vibrant Yellow Warbler, or maybe the majestic Great Blue Heron? Every vote counts, so make sure to have your say!

Why this matters

Beyond the fun of picking a town bird, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the birds in our community and how we can protect them. I love seeing so many people excited about this— Read the Halton Hills Today article here.
