Downtown Georgetown Traffic Calming – Update
Last fall, the Town of Halton Hills shared a proposed traffic calming plan for the Downtown Georgetown neighbourhood and invited residents to provide feedback through Public Information Centres and the Let’s Talk Halton Hills platform.
Staff have now brought forward a report recommending the implementation of traffic calming measures in the neighbourhood. This report will be considered by Council during General Committee on March 9, 2026.
What’s Being Proposed
The recommended plan includes a mix of measures designed to slow vehicles and improve safety for all road users, including:
All-way stop controls at Market Street & Park Avenue and Market Street & Mill Street
Speed cushions on Main Street South
Expansion of the 40 km/h speed limit area
“Traffic Calmed Neighbourhood” signage
A new pedestrian crossover at Main Street South and James Street, added in response to public feedback about pedestrian safety
These measures are intended to address concerns raised by residents about speeding, aggressive driving, and pedestrian safety within the neighbourhood.
What Happens Next
Council will review the staff report during General Committee on March 9. If approved, the traffic calming measures are expected to be implemented in summer 2026.
